Nursing Notes: Past, Present, Future

Embarking on My Journey to Becoming a Certified Nurse Coach

Five weeks into my seven-month journey toward becoming a Certified Nurse Coach, and I can already say—it’s been nothing short of transformative! As I navigate through this incredible program, I’ve gained insight, awareness, and tools that are not just shaping my coaching skills but also influencing how I view healthcare and personal well-being.

Learning the Foundations of Nurse Coaching

One of the first things we explored was the inception of nurse coaching—where it all began and why it’s such a crucial shift in healthcare today. Unlike traditional nursing, which often follows a structured, prescriptive approach, nurse coaching is all about guiding and empowering clients to take the lead in their own health journey. It’s a holistic approach that prioritizes well-being, personal growth, and long-term lifestyle transformation.

The Power of Mindfulness and Deep Listening

Each week, we kick off with a mindfulness practice, something that has become an essential tool in both my professional and personal life. These moments of reflection allow us to recenter, be present, and cultivate a deeper awareness—not just for ourselves but for those we serve.

Another key lesson I’ve embraced is the art of listening—not just hearing words but truly being present and engaged in conversations. In nurse coaching, it’s all about letting the client lead the way while providing support, encouragement, and a safe space for exploration. I’ve learned that the most effective change comes when clients feel heard, validated, and empowered to take ownership of their health.

Addressing Burnout and Creating a Sustainable Practice

As nurses, we’ve all experienced burnout at some point, and we’ve had meaningful discussions about how nurse coaching offers an alternative path—one that aligns with balance, fulfillment, and purpose. This program is reinforcing the idea that healing isn’t just about treating symptoms; it’s about supporting the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Bringing My Vision to Life

I’m also diving into the business side of coaching, which has been both exciting and eye-opening. I’ve developed my pre-meeting questionnaire to better understand my future clients’ goals, concerns, and motivations. Additionally, I’ve created my logo design, a visual representation of the journey I’m about to embark on. It’s all starting to feel very real, and I couldn’t be more excited!

What’s Next?

As I continue progressing through this program, I’ll be taking on pro-bono clients very soon! This will allow me to refine my skills, put my learning into practice, and begin making a real impact. If you or someone you know would be interested in working with me as a nurse coaching client, stay tuned—I’d love to connect! And no, you don’t have to be a nurse to be a client.

This journey is just beginning, and I can’t wait to share more updates along the way. Stay with me as I step into this new chapter, one that blends nursing, holistic wellness, and personal empowerment!

Compassionately,

Sandra, Future Certified Nurse Coach
